The 2004 Rausch Creek AMA National Hare Scramble came down to the final few feet to determine the winner. After nearly 3 hours of racing along the tough Rausch Creek terrain, a last minute pass was the determining factor.Barry Hawk and Jason Raines battled along the 11-mile course all afternoon. These two Yamaha teammates gave each other no quarter as they came into the last hundred yards of the final lap. With the finish line quickly approaching, Hawk made a final attempt to take the lead from Raines. Hawk made the pass stick and crossed the line a mere five seconds ahead of Raines.Finishing out the podium was Nathan Kanney, who got a poor start yet was able to keep the lead pack in sight early on in the race. When the Suzuki rider Doug Blackwell made a mistake, Kanney was on hand to take advantage and climb his way to a third place finish.
