HILLSDALE, Mich., (March 11, 2011) – The 2011 Cobra Motorcycles-sponsored riders are a collective snapshot of what will be the vast majority of this hemisphere’s mini bike class motocross podiums. From far north in Canada, down to Mexico and, of course, all over the United States, U.S.A.-made Cobra racers are poised to again capture the lion’s share of victory hardware across motocross tracks from coast to coast.With a number of Cobra greats from 2010 graduating on to larger bike classes and other manufacturers, another chapter in the legacy of the “Cobra Generation” was closed. Names like Sexton, Cianciarulo and Bailey – and before that Millsaps, Canard and Alessi – all look back fondly on their constructive Cobra years … years highly likely to be unsurpassed in terms of race wins and titles by any other brand they choose to ride. Yet as one chapter closes on Cobra’s industry-standard race heritage, another opens – with marquee names like Mashburn, Turpin, Brown and Rogers for 2011. And with that we’d like to introduce this year’s Cobra-backed race team:

“This makes the racing around we’ve done in Washington D.C. to keep the sport of mini bike racing alive all worth while,” said Cobra President Sean Hilbert, wrenching today on a customer’s Cobra King 50 in mud-covered boots at Alabama’s Mill Creek MX Park, site of this week’s 2011 amateur national season opener. “So we’re here with the Cobra factory rig to support all the Mill Creek amateur national Cobra racers, thankful that – up to this point – our efforts have helped save the sport of mini bike racing in general.”Despite a trying economic climate and an overzealous U.S. government approach to protect kids from ingesting lead, Michigan-based Cobra Motorcycles’ hard-working staff of just over 30 people did everything in their power in 2010 to keep the dreams of young motocross racers alive throughout the United States and rest of the free world.”Two-thousand and ten will go down as a turning point year for Cobra – and a turning point for the better,” added Hilbert. “We saw great advances for the Cobra King 50 and, especially, the Cobra CX65, continued our industry standard successes at national-caliber competitions here and overseas and continued to expand upon the great heritage of the Cobra motorcycles.”That said, we wish all the Cobra-sponsored kids the best of luck this weekend in Alabama.
