ISDE Qualifier, Idaho
June 2nd/3rd, 2012
By:  Sam Bangert

After pounding whoops for so long, I decided to try something new.  The Fulfer Family told me about the ISDE qualifier up in Idaho City.  Even though I wouldn’t be able to qualify because of my age (14), I still wanted to check it out for next year.  Idaho City is in the mountains just outside of Boise, ID.  It’s definitely not the desert!  It was great. Single track through the trees and mountainside switch-backs.  So fun. The rain on Friday night made the conditions epic.

The first day I would start on the 98th minute.  (I was pretty far back). There was a short transfer section into a grass track.  As they counted us down, the butterflies in my stomach started to fly;  5,4,3,2,1.  I was off flying through the trees.  It was very hard to pass people in these specials (unlike the desert).  The rest of the day didn’t go as planned, having stupid little tip overs all day and getting my time messed up.  I ended up 2nd & 12 Overall Amateur.  With ten minutes to impound, I changed the oil, air filter, and tightened bolts so I would be ready for Sunday.

The second day I would start on the same minute.  Today’s course was the same as Saturday only backwards.  All of today’s specials went great.  During the last special, my brakes got really hot, but it didn’t make me slower.  I felt as if it made me faster!  As I cruised through town toward the finish line, I felt a huge relief because I didn’t go flying off one of the cliffs.  I took first place and got the gold and was 1st Overall Amateur!

Thanks Boise Ridge Riders for the most fun race I’ve ever done!  I want to
thank all my sponsors;  Blais Racing Services, Bio- TearOffs, Troy Lee
Designs, Alpinestars, Asterisk, Amsoil, KTM Powersports, ESR, IMS, and my parents for being there for me, and the Lord for keeping me safe.  I also want to than the Fulfer Family for telling me about this race.  I loved it and can’t wait until next year!

Come on out to Glen Helen Raceway this Saturday June 16th to watch the mayhem at the “Last Dog Standing” event where three of our four riders will be competing in this extreme event. Come cheer on Sam Bangert, Brendan Crow, & Kevin Dejongh.  Thanks for your support!
