Cypress, CA February 15, 2013 – After a successful 2012 off-road racing season, in which Yamaha riders won series championships in three different racing disciplines, two talented teams are set to carry the flag for Yamaha in off-road racing for the 2013 season.
Owned and managed by off-road racing legend and seven time AMA Pro Enduro Champion Randy Hawkins, the Am-Pro Yamaha team returns with Paul Whibley as the team’s lead rider aboard the #1 Yamaha YZ450F. Last year, Paul won his second Grand National Cross Country Series (GNCC) Championship in the XC1 class, along with his fifth United Off-Road Racing Association (OMA) National Championship. He’s fit and focused on keeping his string of titles going.
Meanwhile, teammate Jordan Ashburn will be looking to expand on the two podium finishes he earned last year in his rookie season in the XC1 class. Look for Jordan aboard his #9 Yamaha YZ450F, as he’s sure to give Paul and the other GNCC riders all they can handle in 2013.
The third member of Am-Pro Yamaha, and brand-new addition to the team, is Jesse Groemm, who will be competing in the AMA/Rekluse National Enduro Series aboard his #25A Yamaha YZ250, and in GNCC’s XC2 class aboard his #229 YZ250F.
Commenting on his team, Randy Hawkins said, “We’ve got a great mix of wily experience and youthful enthusiasm on the team this year. I know that Paul is laser-focused on defending his titles from talented riders like Jordan and the others in GNCC and OMA, and we’re pleased to have young Jesse on the team and competing for wins, as well.”
Started by Keith Obermeyer, a passionate Yamaha Dealer and racing enthusiast, the team partnered with Am-Pro and burst unto to the scene in 2010 by winning the AMA National Enduro title with Charlie Mullins. In 2012, Obermeyer joined forces with Raines University and under the guidance of Jason Raines, the team continued their winning ways.
Jed Haines will, again, be riding for Obermeyer Yamaha, and he’s keen to defend the AMA Pro Eastern Hare Scrambles Championship that he won last season. In addition, Jed is looking forward to building on the solid podium finishes he earned last year in GNCC’s XC2 class. Look for Jed and his #12 Yamaha YZ250F up front all season long.
Jed’s teammate Brad Bakken will be focusing his efforts on the AMA/Rekluse National Enduro Series and GNNC Series plus being super-motivated to win the local Virginia State Hare Scrambles Championship Series. Brad will compete exclusively aboard his #19 Yamaha YZ250F.
We are very excited to continue our association with the Am-Pro Yamaha team, Jason Raines and our sponsors to further develop young riders to achieve their racing goals while promoting the Yamaha brand! This association has had a positive impact to our Dealership both on and off the track”, said Keith Obermeyer.
