St. Louis, MO – April 19, 2010 – St. Louis marked the final round of the Eastern Regional Lites Championship, and Rockstar Energy Suzuki’s Blake Baggett finished out the season with enough points to place him inside the top five for his rookie season. “For a rookie to come into the Eastern Regional Lites Supercross Series this year and end up with a win, two podiums and five top-five finishes is a great start to what looks to be a very promising career,” said Team Manager Bill Keefe.
Blake got off to a tough start in the main event, tangling bars with another rider, and coming out of the first turn in about 17th. The young rider refused to give up however, as he put his head down and charged through the pack aboard his RM-Z250. Blake’s patience and smart decisions, combined with the racing prowess of the RM-Z, allowed him to work his way through the pack. Blake recovered twelve positions over the course of the 15-lap race, and completed his final Supercross of the season in fifth place. “I feel like this season went really well,” said Blake. “I got a lot of top fives and a win, so I’m happy with how things have been going. Now I can focus on the outdoors and finishing out my rookie year.”
Blake’s 450-class teammate, Tommy Hahn, struggled with the technical track throughout the event in St. Louis, but worked his way up to a finish just inside the top ten. “I didn’t really feel comfortable all night. I don’t know if it was the dirt or the track or what, but it never felt quite right. I guess I was just having an off night.” Tommy will continue to hold his ninth-place position in the season points race, and is looking to break into the top five at the next round in Seattle. “I’m not giving up on breaking into the top five or getting on the podium this year,” said Hahn.
Eastern Regional Lites class rider Jake Moss has nearly recovered from his injuries, and will be back on his bike at the practice track next week. The Australian rider will begin preparing for the upcoming outdoor nationals, where he will return to racing.
With the Eastern Regional Lites Championship over, the focus shifts back to the Western Regional Lites class, which will resume this week in Seattle. Western Regional riders Ryan Morais and Hunter Hewitt will take to the dirt once again and continue to pursue the Western Regional Lites class title. Between his brief stint aboard the Rockstar Makita Suzuki in the 450 class and the time spent at the Suzuki Supercross practice track, Ryan has been training hard in preparation for his return to the Western Regionals. “Ryan hasn’t really been away from the Supercross track,” said Team manager Bill Keefe. “His times are lower than they’ve been all season, and we’re looking forward to being back to full strength.”
