SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Husaberg Factory rider Nathan Woods earned 9th overall at the ninth round of the World Off-Road Championship Series held at Glen Helen Raceway.
On Saturday Woods took some time to get his bike properly dialed in for Sunday’s big race. “Saturday’s practice went really well and we were able to get the bike set up pretty decent for the Glen Helen course,” remarked Woods. After the bike was set-up Woods returned to his motor home to get some much needed rest for the next day. “I have been battling a cold all week and knew I needed to get a lot of rest on Saturday in order to have enough endurance for the two-hour race the next afternoon.”
When the gate dropped for the main event on Sunday afternoon Woods came off the line around mid-pack. After the first lap he was sitting in 7th position. Woods kept up a good pace for the first half of the race battling for 7th position with RPM/KTM rider Brenden Ritzman. “I felt really good the first half of the race. I was able to increase my pace when I started to get challenged and I had a lot of confidence on the course.”
It was after the one hour mark where Woods began to struggle. “My strength was gone after the first hour and my cold got the best of me. At that point I just tried to maintain my position as much as I could to stay inside the top ten.”
Woods eventually finished the race in 9th position. “This is definitely not where I wanted to finish here today because I felt the Husaberg does best in the wide-open desert and hills and I had hoped to finish inside the top five. We had a few set backs today, but there is still one round left and I would love to finish the season on the podium.”
