DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing News
The AMA Motocross series came to a conclusion over the weekend at Pala MX Park in Pala, California. DNA Shred Stix/Star Racing/Yamaha comprised of #20 Broc Tickle, #341 Nico Izzi, #577 Martin Davalos, newcomer #942 Gareth Swanepoel, and #2 Jessica Patterson went out with one of its most successful races of the season, seeing Patterson clinch her sixth WMX championship, and our other members ride on to finishes high up in the standings.
The big highlight came out of Patterson in moto one, getting out to a 2nd place start, she then settled in there for a half of a lap. Riding at her best and wanting to win the championship in grand fashion, Patterson made the pass into the lead at the close of lap one. From there, she held a pace that put the Yamaha pilot far out front. Leading the entire race convincingly, Jessica successfully clinched the national title. “Her dedication to accomplishing this feat has been incredible, and we are so proud as a team to be a part of her great season” said team owner Bobby Regan. In moto two, Patterson rode a smart race on a very rough and sketchy track. Hounding the leader for the whole race, she’d go on to place 2nd happily after already winning the war earlier.
In moto one for the Star boys final race, Tickle started off in a 11th but within a lap had moved up to 9th. Running the speed of the leaders, Tickle went to work and through the halfway mark he sat in 8th. Lap nine saw the Yamaha pilot takeover 7th, and then two laps later he made a clean pass into 5th. At this point he showed strength by finding his lines and breaking away; as he went on to take the 5th position at the checkers. Also in moto one, the rest of the Star squad all came out pretty well with Izzi 12th, Davalos 14th, and Swanepoel was landed on and choose to concentrate on moto two.
In moto two, it was Davalos and Swanepoel who acquired good starts and continued on riding outstandingly through the race. Early on Davalos paced himself in 4th until the midway point when he dropped back to 5th. Meanwhile, Swanepoel raced up to near his teammate, holding down 7th and he was applying the pressure to move forward. In return, a hard fought day for the South African would result in a solid 8th. Fortunately, after a crash in the second turn, Tickle kept it together and mounted one of his notorious charges to the front. In doing so, Tickle salvaged a 9th place finish.
Results:
Moto 1 — Moto 2 = Overall Finish
Broc Tickle — 5th — 9th = 8th
Martin Davalos — 14th — 6th = 9th
Gareth Swanepoel — 38th — 8th = 14th
Nico Izzi — 12th — 39th = 18th
With the twelve race championship in the books, the series rankings shaped up with our riders:
Tickle 7th, Davalos 9th Izzi 15th Anstie 20th
