WORCS News Release
DEVORE, Calif. – Factory FMF/KTM Team rider Mike Brown earned 2nd overall at the opening round of the World Off-Road Championship Series (WORCS) held at Glen Helen Raceway in Devore, CA.
For 2012, the WORCS events consist of two motos. The first moto is one-hour long held mid-day Saturday while the second moto is held on Sunday and runs for one-hour and thirty-minutes.
In Saturday’s one hour moto, Brown nailed the holeshot on is KTM 450 SX-F and led the first lap. He was later passed by Taylor Robert and the two riders remained close throughout the remainder of the moto. At the end of the race Brown was able to secure 2nd finishing just eight seconds behind Robert.
Sunday’s moto saw Mike Brown with another great start. This time he barely missed out on the holeshot and rounded the first corner in 3rd position behind leader Kyle Summers and the 2nd place ride of Taylor Robert.
Brown remained close to the two front runners’ for the first half of the race before settling into his position and maintaining his place. He held 3rd throughout the entirety of the race to claim the position at the end of the moto. His 2-3 moto scores earned him 2nd overall for the weekend.
“I am happy to finish on the podium at the first round,” remarked Brown. “Winning a championship is all about consistency and it’s great to start the season off on the right foot with a podium result.”
Brown will now travel to Florida where he will train over the next two months to prepare for a few of the upcoming sand tracks including the second round of the series which will be held in Primm, NV.
Factory FMF/KTM Team rider Kailub Russell made a guest appearance at the Glen Helen WORCS race. Russell will race select WORCS events during the 2012 season to help improve his sprint speed in the GNCC Series. Russell earned 13th on day one and 9th on day two for an overall 10th place finish.
