AmPro Yamaha Press Release

Riders:
Paul Whibley 1st
Jordan Ashburn 4th

This weekend, the team made the eight hour drive north to Dawson Springs, Kentucky for round 2 of the OMA National Series. OMA owner and founder Bill Gusse was excited to show off the new location and promised the racers it would be one of his toughest courses to date.

When the flagged dropped, AmPro Yamaha’s Paul Whibley charged into the first corner, grabbing the holeshot and leading the pro pack into the first set of woods. Right behind him was his teammate Jordan Ashburn, alongside KTM’s Russell Bobbitt and Husaberg’s Nick Fahringer. Within the first five minutes, Whibley’s speed would prove to be unmatched as he pulled away from the trio, leaving them to fight for the runner up position. By the third lap, Ashburn had worked his way into second with Fahringer and Bobbitt hot on his tracks. As the day went on, Whibley’s lead continued to increase further and further, showing the world again why he is the four time OMA National Champion. On the fifth lap, a minor equipment setback would allow both Fahringer and Bobbitt to get by Ashburn. Jordan did his best to regain the lost time but the muddy track conditions and tight trees made passing very difficult, especially when encountering lapped riders. When it was all said and done, AmPro’s Paul Whibley would be the one standing on the top of the box with yet another overall win in this year’s series. Unfortunately for Ashburn, there just wasn’t enough time to make up for the small setback. The young AmPro Yamaha rookie crossed the finish line just seconds behind KTM’s Russell Bobbitt, finishing 4th overall.

“Today was picture perfect,” says Whibley. “The course was tight and technical, just the way I like it. Bill Gusse really did a great job prepping the course and Katherine and Ryan did an amazing job of keeping me notified on the pit board. I knew there was a battle going on behind me because every lap the board had a different name on it. I’m really proud of Jordan for sticking it out. He’s got the speed and I hope to share the podium with him in the near future.”

“Today was a lot of fun,” says Ashburn. “The course was exactly what I expected and I loved it. Nick and Russell rode awesome today and I did my best to stay with them. The course was super tight and passing was really difficult. I’m happy with where I finished but I know I can do better and I’m excited to bring this momentum into next weekend’s GNCC.”
