Location: Upton, WY
Riders:
Thad Duvall – 3rd Place
Randy Hawkins – 3rd Place
Report:
After 1700 miles of driving, the Am-Pro Yamaha Race Team arrived in Upton, Wyoming ready to race!
The conditions were near perfect, with temperatures topped out around 70 degrees, and dirt that was still wet from rain earlier in the week.
AmPro Yamaha’s Thad Duvall came into this race ready to prove that he could hang with the series leaders. Starting out on the 26th minute, Thad charged through the first couple sections with ease. By the half-way point of the race, he had worked his way up, and got within 10 seconds of the lead time. Thad continued to put the hammer down, gunning for the win, until his rear brake line suddenly exploded. Fortunately for him, it was the final section of the race and he was still able to salvage a third place finish.
“I felt really good out there,” says Duvall. “The course was awesome and the bike worked great. It took me a little bit to find my pace but once I got there, everything started coming together. By the final section I knew Charlie was only a couple seconds ahead of me, so I pushed as hard as could to make up the time. When I noticed my rear brakes were gone my heart sank a little but I just kept going as fast as could without crashing. I’m really happy with finishing in 3rd place. Russell and Charlie are both great riders and I was pumped to be on the box next to them!”
Team owner and National Enduro legend Randy Hawkins also decided to make the long trip out west to compete. After riding a comfortable pace throughout the day, Randy was happy to finish 3rd in the Senior A Class.
“What a great race,” says Hawkins. “It was fun to come out here and ride with some of my longtime friends and competitors. Matt Stavish and I go way back and we rode together all day. The track flowed perfectly and the course was relatively easy. Overall I’m really happy with my 3rd place finish. For me it’s all about having fun and that’s exactly what I did!”
