Mitchell Oldenburg's Day At RedBud Motocross | MX 2016

Mitchell Oldenburg went 8-9 for 10 overall at round 6.

Mitchell Oldenburg has been making a consistent run at the top ten in point standings in the 250 class so far this season. Mitchell is a member of the Troy Lee Designs KTM Factory Team that right now only consists of himself and Shane McElrath while the other riders recover from their injuries. In the first timed practice for the 250 class Mitchell was able to turn his fastest lap of 2:01.461 on the last lap of the session. Mitchell was scrubbing the finish line every lap in the first practice in an attempt to shave more time of his lap.Photography by Rob Koy
Mitchell took the outside line over the single jump before the finish line to keep his momentum up going up the hill and into the right hand turn before the finish line. Many riders were at first scrubbing this jump in the first practice, but in the second practice they started to hit it at speed and flatland in the sand. Mitchell was able to improve on his first session time with a 1:59.779 which would give him the 8th gate pick going into moto one.Photography by Rob Koy
In moto one Mitchell got a top ten start and got into 9th place after the first lap. He moved up to 7th place on lap three and was able to get into 6th place on lap 9 when he passed Aaron Plessinger. Here Mitchell takes the inside line in the corner before the uphill triple by the off camber turn. The inside rut was a much shorter distance than the outside rut, but if riders kept up their momentum they both could come out about equal.Photography by Rob Koy
Mitchell and Zach Osborne battled over the 6th place position around the halfway point of the moto. Here you can see how the two lines differed as Zach took the outside rut and had the speed to launch the jump where Mitchell took the inside and did not have the speed to clear the jump, so he went for a scrub so he could get the wheels back on the ground and power out of it.Photography by Rob Koy
Mitchell takes the inside line going through the sand whoops on this lap. In the first moto the outside was the preferred line for the 250s to keep up their momentum going into the whoops. By the second moto the outside got blown out and the inside line took over.Photography by Rob Koy
Mitchell takes the inside line around this turn in the middle lane by LaRocco’s leap. You had to hit this perfect to be able to clear the table top right out of the corner.Photography by Rob Koy
Here Mitchell hits the tabletop out of the corner and has to stretch it out to clear it from the inside rut. Mitchell would go on to finish moto one in the 8th place position, scoring another top ten finish.Photography by Rob Koy
Mitchell got off to a good start in moto two but got shuffled back to 13th place after lap one. He was consistently running 2:06- 2:07 lap times and making a few passes. By the halfway point he was able to make it up to 9th place.Photography by Rob Koy
Mitchell was taking the inside on the turn before the finish line, but went to the outside rut as it was a little smoother out there.Photography by Rob Koy
Here you can see how deep the ruts got by the end of moto two. Mitchell was dragging his pegs up the face on what looks like the better line. Mitchell held on to 9th place all the way to the end of the moto and scored an 8-9 for 10th overall at RedBud. Mitchell Oldenburg is showing the consistency to finish in the top ten every week. If it weren’t for two bad motos earlier in the year Mitchell would be in 8th place overall in the series.Photography by Rob Koy
