Several sites are reporting that Layne Michael will be filling in for the injured Ryan Sipes at next week’s ISDE in Spain, but that is only partially true. Yes, Michael is going to compete at this year’s event, and team manager Antti Kallonen picked the Coastal Racing Husqvarna rider because he is still young enough to compete in the Junior Trophy division. According to Kallonen, he has until Saturday to decide where he will put Michael, and once the team arrives in Spain, which they will do today, they will look at the terrain and make a decision. But one scenario will see Michael take Steward Baylor’s place on the Junior Trophy team while Baylor gets promoted to the World Trophy team. Or, Michael could just take Sipes’ spot on the World Trophy team, but nothing has been decided yet.
