Good Motorcycle Riding, For A Good Reason

Riding Motorcycles in Idaho with Klim for a good reason

Klim offered up a spot for one of the editors of Dirt Rider to come up and ride with them in Idaho at their 2016 Cow Tag, an event they created last year to raise money for trail advocacy and just as an excuse for them to get out of the office and ride. Either way it fits in the Dirt Rider wheel house of good motorcycle riding for a good reason. Since the Editor is on vacation and the others are picking up his slack, I'm the lucky one that gets to take the spot.

The Cow Tag is an event Klim started last year to generate funds for the local riding community and help donate money for trail advocacy. John Summers Marketing Director for Klim said they teamed up with their local riding club, Idaho Falls Trails Machine Association and Sharetrails.org, aka the Blue Ribbon Coalition.

The ride format in simplest terms is a cross between a scavenger hunt and a poker run. Adding a little Idaho to the ride is where the cow tags come into play. They mark the different destinations on the trails with actual cow tags and that is what the riders are out looking for. Each cow tag is worth a certain amount of points and at the end of the day the riders will trade the points in for raffle tickets.

This will be the second year for the event. Last years event had 218 participants and raised little over $18,000. That many riders on the trail seems like a traffic jam, but when you set it up like a scavenger hunt, it allows you not to eat dust all day. The money is split between 3 different groups. A portion will go to Sharetrails.org, another portion went to ORBA and the rest will go to the local riding club, Idaho Falls Trails Machine Association.

Unfortunately, the event is full, but if you still want to help out you can still go to sharetrails.org/cowtag/ and donate. Every $10 donation will get you an entry into a drawing to possibly winning a Beta 300rr. Who knows you just might win a bike in the process.
