At round 4 of the AMA Supercross series, Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star Racing Yamaha’s Aaron Plessinger achieved his second victory of the season at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Plessinger came around the first turn in third and went to work on Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Joey Savatgy in the opening laps. Plessinger made a clean pass on Savatgy and began closing up on race leader Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Shane McElrath.

Just before the halfway point of the race, Plessinger dove to the inside of McElrath in a right-hand bowl turn and the two went over the next triple side by side. Upon landing, Plessinger quickly moved to the right in order to block McElrath’s line leading into the next rhythm section. McElrath got a bit sideways and nearly went down, but was able to keep his 250 SX-F on two wheels and regroup. The two would not exchange positions again, giving Plessinger his second win of the season and McElrath another podium finish.

Behind the leaders were Savatgy and his teammate Adam Cianciarulo. Savatgy—who qualified for the main event via the LCQ due to a crash in his heat race—made a small mistake in a right-hand corner in the closing laps of the main event, which allowed Cianciarulo to capitalize and pass him. Cianciarulo would cross the line in third ahead of Savatgy in fourth and behind those two rounding out the top five for the night was GEICO Honda’s Chase Sexton.
