Moto XXX Round 11 Race Report - Dirt Rider Magazine

Moto XXX Motocross Round 11 Race Report: Wortham, TexasIt took nearly two decades for professional motocross to make its way back to the Lone Star state but it was worth the wait as round 11 of the AMA Motocross Championship got underway at Freestone County Raceway in Wortham, Texas. 1988 was the last time the state of Texas hosted a professional national race and the faithful Texas fans were treated to a brand new track and some amazing racing. The Moto XXX team took to the track Saturday afternoon and proceeded to post some solid lap times. All of the riders easily transferred into Sunday's motos and looked to stay cool for the rest of the afternoon. Sunday morning practice/qualifying got off on the right foot with Josh Summey and Kyle Lewis both notching top 20 gate positions. Yoshihide Fukudome was not far behind and was looking forward to building on his second moto finish from Steel City.As the first Motocross class moto took off down the start straight, Josh Summey and Kyle Lewis both sat just outside of the top 10 in 11th and 12th places, respectively. Yoshihide Fukudome didn't get the best jump off the line and completed the first lap in 36th place. Summey quickly moved up through the pack and after the fifth lap had moved into eighth place. Lewis took a little bit of time to find his rhythm but was still battling for a top 10 position. Unfortunately for Fukudome his day would end early after a nasty get-off in one of the high-speed corners earned him a spot in the Asterisk medical unit. Fukudome suffered a concussion and will meet with the Moto XXX team doctors this week to determine his status for the upcoming Glen Helen national. Back on the track, Summey moved into seventh place just past the half way mark and was still riding strong. Lewis was also riding well and sitting in 12th position. Over the last few laps, Summey would battle for position but would ultimately cross the line in 8th place. Lewis was not far behind in 12th place.Looking to improve on their first moto scores, Josh Summey and Kyle Lewis both got off the line well as the second moto charged down the first straight. This time Lewis nabbed the better start and would complete the first lap in seventh place. Summey had some work to do as he passed by in 21st place but quickly improved to 17th by the end of the third lap. Unfortunately, more bad luck would befall the Moto XXX team as Summey would pull off on the fifth lap, retiring for the day with mechanical difficulties. With the halfway mark approaching, Lewis was still riding hard but had fallen back to 12th place. When the checkered flag flew Lewis would be credited with 13th place on the moto, good for 11th overall on the day. Even with a poor second moto score Summey was able to garner 13th place overall. The series draws to a close this coming weekend when Glen Helen Raceway hosts the 12th and final round of the AMA Motocross Championship. San Bernardino, California will be the site of the event and all of the Moto XXX riders are looking for a strong finish heading into the off season.
