Monster Energy Kawasaki's Joey Savatgy raced to the overall 250cc class win this past Saturday night at round 3 of the 2018 Monster Energy Supercross series in front of a reported sell-out crowd of more than 45,000 fans.
Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, hosted the first-ever Triple Crown event, a three-city showdown—Anaheim, Atlanta, Minneapolis—starting at Anaheim 2, where both the 250cc and 450cc classes competed in three main events of varying lengths.
In the six-minute first 250cc main event, Joey Savatgy (Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki) led from the start ahead of Christian Craig (GEICO Honda) while Mitchell Oldenburg (Monster Energy/Yamalube/Star/Yamaha) raced to third by the checkers.
When the gate dropped for the 10-minute second main event, Shane McElrath (Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM) stayed wide open ahead of the KX250F of Savatgy and the CRF250R of Craig to take the victory.
Finally, in the 12-minute third main event, Savatgy remained up front while Adam Cianciarulo (Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki) held onto second ahead of Chase Sexton (GEICO Honda). Savatgy’s 1-2-1 was good enough for the overall win.
