Weston Peick's Day At Washougal Motocross | MX 2016

Weston Peick went 7-5 for 4th overall at Washougal MX, check out his race day in photos here.

Weston Peick came into Washougal a little banged up, but not broken from a Millville crash with Broc Tickle. Weston got cross rutted up a face of a jump and Tickle ended up landing on the JGR Yamaha rider. Tickle who cracked his pelvis in the crash was out of Washougal, but Weston felt good enough to show up. He ended up putting in one of his best rides to date.Photo by Preston Jordan
Weston had the 11th fastest time in qualifying practice which he wasn’t too happy with. After some bike changes between practice session he improved his set up, but the previous qualifying times held up as the track was in better shape for the first qualifiers.Photo by Preston Jordan
Shadows played a big part in the day’s racing. Weston has spent some time up here racing as an amateur and said, “I really like this track”. Some of his best rides in the past have come from Washougal and it showed on Sunday. Weston opted to run handguards at Washougal to prevent getting pelted with rocks to protect his tender hand that was cut in the Millville incident. Washougal is known around the paddock as the worst roost on the circuit.Photo by Preston Jordan
In the first moto Weston had to come from an 11th place start and battled with Andrew Short and Benny Bloss all moto to come home in 7th. Weston fastest lap time was near the end of the 30-minute plus two-lap moto and he felt that if he got a better start he could be near the podium in the second moto.Photo by Preston Jordan
The second moto start was a little better as Peick started around ninth. As the track’s slick conditions and shadows loomed around the Washougal corners, Peick made an impressive pass on Dean Wilson to get in sixth. His teammate Justin Barcia was just ahead of him in fifth near the 20-minute mark as Peick began to chip away at the gap. Peick made a fairly aggressive pass after the finish line whoops only to have Barcia steal it back a couple laps later. Peick finished the moto in fifth place just behind Barcia to get him a fourth overall, one point more than Barcia.Photo by Preston Jordan
Peick was sporting Fly Racing’s new Lite Hydrogen blue colorway in Washougal. Fly had their 2017 gear launch in downtown Portland on Friday night in which Weston attended. Peick’s gear contract ends at the end of the year, but he is looking to continue the relationship with WPS and Fly. When we talked to his dad Louie at the Fly party Friday night he said “Weston is not the type of rider to bounce around from sponsor to sponsor. He likes to stay loyal to the people that has helped him through his career and is not just looking for the big money deals”.Photo by Preston Jordan
