Motion Pro Revolver Throttle – Dirt Rider Magazine

Why would you want to replace your throttle? Mostly the answer involves a crash-related issue or a broken throttle tube. But changing your throttle to get better performance is an option, too. There have been a few specialty makers of throttle tubes with ratios that differ from stock, but the Motion Pro setup differs in that it offers you four choices.Depending on the bike, any current or late-model four-stroke, a selection of more aggressive or less aggressive pulls are included. Typically, and on the Honda CRF450R we tried it on, the second step (blue) Motion Pro cable wheel is very similar to standard. The kit comes with the complete throttle assembly, four ratio (and colored) cable wheels and the high-quality cables the company is known for. The fit is bolt-on, but on some bikes changing out the cables is work, mostly due to routing or carb/throttle body access. Everything else is simple, and the chore comes in trying out all of the different wheels to see what you like.It is frankly amazing the change such a small item can make in power delivery. Depending on the rider, it can be more drastic than swapping a pipe or adding a flywheel. The more ham-fisted the rider, the more this seemed true, as these riders let the mechanical aspects of the machine have more effect than the rider. So the less aggressive throttle wheels (black or blue) actually mellowed the power delivery and made the bike more controllable. More aggressive wheels (red or yellow) gave the bike a bigger hit. Riders who have more throttle control found that the aggressive wheels were preferred and in some cases made the bike easier to ride, likely since they didn’t have to turn the throttle as far.

Changing out the wheels is a five-minute job, at most, and you can even upgrade to an aluminum throttle tube ($58.99) to have a more indestructible package. About the only drawback to the throttle is that the housing is a bit bigger than the stock units and can interfere with the placement of the front brake’s lever clearance for those who like to run it more outward. At $154.99 it is comparable with the cost of replacing the stock components, but you’re actually getting a notable performance-tuning device at the same time. Truthfully, we liked it a lot more than we ever thought we would. -Jimmy Lewis
