KTM focused most of its attention on improving the frames and forks on the '05 machines.

What's Hot!
125 & 250 SX
• Premium components such as an aluminum Renthal Fatbar, a Magura hydraulic clutch, an oversize front disc, a powdercoated frame and hubs, plated pipes and Excel rims wrapped with Bridgestone tires.
• Both models have the most-durable and -powerful two-stroke engines in their classes.
• Clutch action is smooth and light, and the feel at the lever never changes.
• Ergonomics are exceptionally slim, and seats are much more plush for '05.
• Routine suspension setup is much easier and more similar to linkage-equipped Japanese bikes.
• Shock preload is super-easy to change with the shock on the side of the bike and no locking ring to knock loose.
• Fork spring preload is externally adjustable.
• No tools needed for air-filter service.
• Steering is crisp and accurate.
• Top triple clamp is four-position adjustable for handlebar clamp position.
• Billet triple clamps with cam-ground stem that can be either 18 or 20mm offset.

125 SX
• Motor is still super-strong for a 125 two-stroke.
• Piston and clutch life can exceed that of some four-strokes and all 125cc two-strokes.
• Bike feels very light.

250 SX
• Motor makes massive power yet runs easily on pump gas.
• Parts kit comes with two additional power-valve springs, and the power-valve spring preload is externally adjustable to allow tuning the power delivery to your tastes.

What's Not!
125 & 250 SX
• Rear suspension is still more sensitive to spring rates, so lighter riders may need a softer rear spring while heavier riders may require a stiffer spring.
• We would still trade some of the 250's top-end rush for a more YZ-like roll-on for hard-terrain tracks.

For '05, the shock body is mounted farther inboard, so no more rubbing on the rider's boots.

Complementing the stiffer frame and smoother fork action is a plusher seat.

250 SX
Even though I have been spending most of my time on 250cc four-strokes lately, I was able to jump right on the KTM 250 SX and go fast. We measured the sag before I rode the bike, but the rear still felt a bit high, so I had another turn taken off the spring. Then the bike settled on the straights and didn't dive when I was braking for turns. I could grab the tiniest inside ruts, too. I swear this bike feels faster than the 450cc four-stroke I've ridden. I helped test the power-valve springs, and I liked the lightest one the best. I could race this bike easily—I had a lot of fun on it.
