What's New!

All full-size SX models
• WP PDS shock fitted with a straight-rate spring (instead of progressive) and the needle for the PDS makes the second piston in the shock have more effect for better action yet retaining bottoming control.
• WP 48mm fork has more effective mid-speed valve in fork, so compression valving could softened for plusher action
• Swingarm pivot bolt is increased 2mm to 17mm and swingarm pivot are of frame is constructed from forged rather than stamped pieces for increased strength.
• Swingarm 10 mm longer for better traction and stability.
• Gusseting around steering head changed for more strength.
• Rear master cylinder now has integrated reservoir.
• A brake discs have round holes instead of previous slots.
• All SX models have one-piece rear fender/side number plate combo, subframe and air-box found on '03 250 and 450 SX.
• Clutch master cylinder bore reduced for easier pull at the lever and refined engagement feel.
• Air filter and cage with three retaining pins for better sealing and safety.
• Triple clamps for all models have 20mm off-set (two-strokes were 14-mm in '03).
• Renthal 608 tapered handlebar is 12mm higher than '03.
• Dual-compound grey/orange Renthal half-waffle medium compound grips.
• Frame guards are fit to new forged frame parts.

What's Hot!

• Massively improved suspension plushness and action for all models.
• Lighter brake and clutch efforts, but with better feel to all controls.
• Lower and more compact, more mainstream ergonomic setup. Very slim and light overall feel for all models.
• Chassis balance front to rear much more neutral.
• Very clean looks and graphics that hold up well.
• Premium components are standard.
• All engines but on 450 SX have class-leading power; 450 is competitive but smoother and less violent than classmates.

What's Not!

• Seats are still very firm.
• Some riders notice a different feel to the linkless rear suspension.
• Bike can feel almost too narrow.

The KTM 125 SX has drastically different suspension. The rear shock is a lot better; it allows you to charge a lot harder down hills, and it drives through bumps instead of deflecting off them. The power is amazing. It hits really smooth but at the same time is very powerful. Overall, the 125 SX is a big improvement from last year. The 250 SX also has noticeable improvements. Its power is very different from last year. It generates more bottom, has a less rude transition to the mid-hit and still runs very strong on top. The suspension is completely different. It's a lot plusher and handles way better. The '04 is a big step up from '03, but I think I'll take a hard look at that 200 SX before I decide for the year.
