I use inner tube from my mountain bike over the footpegs to prevent snow from building up and turn into ice on the pegs. 1.75-2.1 fits rather well, just cut a piece long enough and put it over, when you stand on it the teeth of the peg will  go through, so grip is no issue. A few layers of duct tape will also work, allthough not last as long.
