Team Honda HRC Sits Out RedBud National

Team sits out due to injuries

Despite a promising start to the AMA Pro Motocross season, Team Honda HRC has been plagued with injuries of late, forcing them to sit out of the iconic RedBud National in Buchanan, Michigan. After matching his career-best 450MX finish last week in Tennessee, Cole Seely was injured while practicing at Southern California’s Pala Raceway and was forced to undergo surgery on his right pinky. Seely will revisit his surgeon in the coming week, which is when a more accurate recovery timeline will be determined. Teammate Trey Canard has missed the last three rounds due to a bulging disc in his back, which is causing numbness in his right arm and hand. Following an attempt by Canard to ride during the week, it was determined it was best for him to miss RedBud and focus on a full recovery. His condition will continue to be evaluated on week-by-week basis.

With the race taking place over the Fourth of July weekend, Team Honda HRC had planned to don patriotic red, white and blue livery created by Throttle Jockey. Seely’s #14 race machine was on display with the custom graphics for fans and industry to see.Photo Courtesy of Honda

Though he’s still recuperating from injury, Canard flew to the RedBud National to hang out with his fans, while also supporting his fellow Red Rider Justin Bogle of GEICO Honda. He was kept busy while in attendance, signing autographs for both Team Honda HRC and his personal sponsor Fly Racing.

After securing the holeshot in both motos, GEICO Honda’s Justin Bogle put together two respectable rides, finishing ninth overall with 10-9 marks. The Oklahoma native now sits ninth in the championship standings with 118 points.

It will be a short week for Bogle and the Team Honda HRC crew as they head to The Wick 338 in Southwick, Massachusetts, early for designated press day on Thursday, where Bogle will talk with local media and be able to ride the track for two 20-minute sessions.

Dan Betley - Team Manager:
It's very unfortunate that both Trey and Cole are sidelined with injuries, but it was a decent day for Justin. The positives are that he showed solid speed during the morning's qualifying practice and scored the holeshot in both motos, but he fell off the pace and faded back quite a bit. We're staying hopeful that Trey will be able to return to action soon and will have a better idea of Cole's timeline when he revisits his doctor. Until then, we're going to take it week-to-week.
