2005 Honda Crf450r Top View
The even-slimmer 2005 CRF450R makes the '04 feel bloated.
What's Hot!
• Engine starts, carburetes, shifts and clutches easily, and it makes holeshot power in spades.
• Best 450cc suspension of 2004 just got much better with plush action and superb bottoming resistance.
• Riding position is slim and inviting with ample comfort and room for sitting or standing.
• Quality and fit and finish are all first-rate.
• Only 450 that still has a five-speed gearbox.

What's Not!
• Honda wouldn't even tell us about the CRF450X, which will suit off-road riders much better.
• Power delivery and quantity may be a little gnarly for some beginner and novice riders.
• We can't all have one.

2005 Honda Crf450r Side View

One of the joys of the 2002 through '04 CRF450Rs was they were so comfortable and easy to ride that they won legions of fans. Now this 2005 makes the '04 feel portly and sluggish handling. The bike is slim, light feeling and comfy, with acceleration that will get your heart pumping. Even though I am the senior editor, I doubt that title confers enough clout to get this bike to live at my house in 2005. I certainly wouldn't turn it down; my fear is the offer would merely turn out to be temporary! This is one fabulous four-stroke.
