What's New
(Compared with the 2004 Honda CRF250R)

• 2004 CR125R swingarm and new linkage to modify the link ratio to suit off-road use.
• 18-inch rear wheel, headlight, odometer, quick-change air-filter door, lightweight LED tailight and other off-road accoutrements.
• Sealed airbox with silencing snorkel.
• Smaller-diameter header pipe and 82-decibel muffler.
• Suspension setting and softer springs for off-road use.
• Camshaft profile designed to allow smog and sound compliance.
• Five-speed, wide-ratio transmission with only second gear in common.
• Frame bracing and left-side spar casting changed for better feel off-road and to allow mounting sidestand.
• California models have lean jetting and an air pump to pass emissions standards.

What's Hot!
• Smooth and comfortable ergonomics, including a great seat and Renthal handlebar.
• Clean and crisp throttle response, with usable power from idle on up.
• Excellent fuel mileage and range from the stock tank.
• Plush, off-road-capable suspension that is woods-soft but can still handle Western conditions.
• Great brakes with strength and feel.
• Transmission ratios are much more flexible, with a lower first and greater available speed, but still without gaps between gears.
• Overall light feel--especially for an electric start-equipped bike.
• Kickstarting is fairly effortless.

What's Not!
• Standing riding position is a little compact for taller riders.
• Seat height not especially low.

The little mill retains enough XR DNA to crawl over rocks but is more willing when the speeds bump up.

Visually, the Honda CRF250X is a very clean-looking and well-designed bike. The attention to detail you'd expect from a Honda is evident down to the quick-adjust clutch perch. Being used to a KTM 300 E/XC two-stroke with roughly twice the horsepower, I wasn't sure how comfortable I'd be riding the bike.
