The culminating round of the Amp'd Mobile AMA Supercross series and the Amp'd Mobile World Supercross GP took place this past weekend in the fabulous city of Las Vegas, Nevada. Sam Boyd stadium was once again the site for the final round of the two series' which also marked team rider, Kyle Lewis's final Supercross appearance.
After more than 20 years of professional racing marked with thousands of points, main event wins, and countless holeshots, the longtime Moto XXX rider has put an end to an impressive career. While Lewis is scheduled to contest this summer's AMA Motocross championships, Las Vegas was the final Supercross race of his career. To celebrate his final Supercross, Lewis was invited to participate in the opening ceremonies and welcomed on a parade lap with the series' champions.
Kyle Lewis, along with teammate Josh Summey lined up together for the second Supercross heat of the night. Lewis headed to the outside of the start gate while Summey tried his hand on the far inside. Both riders got off the line quickly and sped down "Thunder Alley" inside the top 10. After one lap, Lewis and Summey sat in eighth and ninth places, respectively. Summey passed Lewis shortly after and made quick work of another rider putting himself into the seventh position, ultimately where he would finish. Lewis rode a consistent race and was able to capitalize on another rider's mistake to take the final transfer spot into the main event. For the second weekend in a row both riders rode really well qualifying directly to the main event through their heat race.
By the time the main event rolled around the track had become extremely dry and slick. Kyle Lewis and Josh Summey both lined up similar to where they were in the heat race with Lewis on the outside and Summey on the inside. Their choices would pay off once again as the two riders would be just outside the top 10 as the pack completed lap one. Summey battled with some factory riders on his way up to 9th place at the half-way mark, while Lewis held steady in 13th. The two riders proceeded to settle into a fast pace and count down the laps to the end of the 2007 season. Josh and Kyle both rode smart avoiding numerous crashes and at the end of the night Josh finished 8th and Kyle 15th.
Summey's eighth place finish marks his best main event race of his rookie Supercross season. Overall for the year, Josh finished 11th place in the World Supercross GP and 12th place in the AMA Supercross Series. Lewis ended the season 23rd for the World Supercross GP and 29th in the AMA Supercross Series.
After the race, team manager, Allan Brown had this to say; "Tonight was a pretty good night for us. Josh earned his best finish of the year thus far and Kyle wrapped up his final Supercross season with a good ride in main."
When asked about the Supercross season Brown commented; "As a team we struggled with consistency throughout the Supercross series but as you can see these past two races have gone well for us. The whole team has been working hard and we are all looking to carry this momentum into the outdoor nationals. We have a good team lined up for the outdoors and I think you will really see everyone shine come Hangtown."
