Then the supercross class came out for their first heat and Ivan Tedesco jumped off the line first. It didn't last long as James Stewart, who wheelied slightly off the start, cut back and snuck under Tedesco to carry the lead into the first rhythm section. Windham was back in fifth slowly making his way forward. At the beginning of lap five Tedesco fell. Windham, up to third by that point, inherited the position. The heat finished with the top five as Stewart, Windham, Josh Demuth, Cole Siebler, and Tedesco. On the podium, Stewart revealed that his front brake had failed on the third lap and he had to finish the race without a working front brake.
The second heat saw Michael Byrne leap off the line and get a huge jump on the pack. RC was third coming out the first corner, and into second place another corner after that. Carmichael looked fast, and was closing on Byrne. Ricky took the lead on the second lap and that was that. Tim Ferry was making his debut on his new Kawasaki. He struggled in the whoops in the early laps, but then began to put the section together and looked much more comfortable there by the end of the heat. Looking good all night in the whoops was David Vuillemin, on his new Honda that he debuted the week before at the Jeremy McGrath Invitational. The second heat finished with Carmichael crossing ahead of Byrne, Vuillemin, Ferry, and Brock Sellards.
The lites Last Chance Qualifier was a tense one with Tommy Hahn looking fast and desperate to recover from a fourth place start. Hahn looked sure to pass Justin Brayton and get into one of the two qualifying positions available, but Brayton had the track dialed. Brayton, instead, was the one to move up, passing Sean Hackley to get into second and setting his sites on Jake Weimer. Brayton got within striking distance on the last lap, and the two riders went through the final two corners with elbows and bars banging. Weimer held on for the win, but Brayton also qualified into the main.
The supercross Last Chance Qualifier saw Jeff Dement going into the first corner in second behind Jason Thomas, but somehow coming out in fourth. Dement was the rider on the move, and was up to third before the first lap was complete. Thomas, Chad Johnson, and Dement put some distance between them and the pack, but with only two transfer positions available for the three riders, the race stayed exciting. Dement was finding lines on the track few other riders were using in his struggle to get past Johnson, but Dement could not find a way around. The battle spurred Johnson into first, and Dement went to work on Thomas. Dement got up to Thomas with a fast drive through the whoops, but he dropped his bike in the next corner. Thomas got hung up on Dement's Yamaha, and both riders lost their chance to qualify. Only Chad Johnson and Keith Johnson would race again that night.
The lites main event didn't hold up to the promise of some of the earlier racing. Josh Grant got the holeshot and never looked back. Chris Gosselaar had a chance at the holeshot, but Josh Hansen pushed him wide. After the riders filed through the first corner it was Grant, Hansen, Justin Brayton (getting a great start from the last gate pick), Ben Townley, Chris Gosselaar, and Sean Collier.
By the second lap Josh Grant had the race under his control. He rode smoothly gradually crept away from the pack. Hansen had second, but Gosselaar had his sights on him. On lap three, in the outdoor section, muddy from the rain, Gosselaar took an inside line and got the position without much of a fight from Hansen. Perhaps Hansen's injured wrist was slowing him. By lap six, Hansen came under attack from Brayton, who made the pass in the whoops two laps later. Townley was catching Hansen when Hansen pulled off the track on lap nine. Hansen wasted no time stopping to talk anything over with anyone - he was out of that stadium and headed back to his semi in a hurry.
