MX2 CLASS
Taking his maiden double heat win, KTM mounted Marvin Musquin wrapped up his second GP win and first with the Austrian manufacturer. Winning first time out Musquin increased his advantage in the Championship as he is due to enter his home round in Ernee next weekend with the red plate.
Dominating heat one, Musquin recovered in heat two until he moved past leader Goncalves.
Steven Frossard ended second on the podium for the second time this year. The result gave the CLS' Frenchman a lot of confidence ahead of Ernee where he will try and grasp his maiden GP win. Moving past Gautier Paulin, Steven Frossard ended second in heat one. In heat two he was sandwiched in between Rui Goncalves and Marvin Musquin with the duo eventually finishing ahead of him.
Rounding off an all French podium Bud Racing Kawasaki's Gautier Paulin remained runner up in the Championship. A crash in heat one saw the previous red plate holder lost his chance for a second place finish.
Red Bull KTM Factory Racing's Rui Goncalves put an end to his three podium row as he missed the rostrum by just two points - he ended fourth overall ahead of Spanish GP winner Jeremy Van Horebeek.
Taking 11th overall Sword was the highest placed home rider as American Zach Osborne pulled out in pain due to his wrist injury at Agueda - he tried to come back this weekend but he unveiled to be not fit yet.
Marvin Musquin: "I am feeling very confident. I liked the track and I am happy with my bike. Yesterday I knew I was fast when I won the qualifying race and could choose the first gate. I managed to take the holeshot in the first race and I put in some good lap times."
Steven Frossard: "My start was pretty good in the first race, but I lost too much time to pass some other riders and when I took second Marvin was too far away. I pushed hard to reduce the gap but that was not enough laps. In the second heat I came back on Goncalves and wanted to apply some pressure, but I couldn't find a place to pass him. I lost my rhythm, then made a mistake and Marvin overtook me. This is my second podium of the season but that's not enough for me, and now I am getting impatient for my first GP win."
Gautier Paulin: "On Saturday during the qualifying race I did a wheelie at the start but today was better and I got a great launch in the opening moto. I was second for most of the race, but then made a mistake and crashed; I had a good rhythm afterwards, the bike was not damaged and I scored a third place. At the second start some of us were a bit distracted by one rider who jumped early and hit the gate, but I had a good opening lap until I slid out and lost three positions! It took me a few laps before I got a good rhythm again and when I came to fourth position the leaders were too far away. Last year I was not successful here, but this time I felt good physically; the bike was great and it was a good weekend even if the results show that we must continue to work if we want to take back the red plate."
Zach Osborne DNF: "I definitely knew coming into this weekend that it would not be easy. I took a painkilling injection before the race but it could only do so much. The whole team made their best effort to try and salvage something for the championship but it is far out of reach now and I will focus on recovering fully and being able to come back and win. I hope to be 100% by the German Grand Prix in three weeks time."
