Help Salinas Ramblers MC Keep Clear Creek Management Area Open
Clear Creek Management Area is home to the QuickSilver and Wild Boar enduros. The QuickSilver is the only National enduro thats takes place in California. Enviromentalists have filed a lawsuit to have the area completely closed to protect an endangered plant (Evening Primrose).
The enviromentalists are using the argument that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) did not adequately fence off areas to protect the plant. The BLM had fenced a partial area but never completed the project. Meanwhile, some riders meandered through the open area and left trail marks. The enviromentalists see this as a violation of the Endangered Species Act and are using it as ammunition to have the entire area closed to off-road use.
The Salinas Ramblers Motorcycle Club and other groups have been working hard with the BLM to help keep the area open. Ed Tobin of the Salinas Ramblers spends most of his time working to keep the OHV community up to speed on what's happening behind the scenes. Recently members of the Salinas Ramblers, Central Coast RUTS, and other groups have banded together as volunteers to finish the fencing themselves. The BLM has provided the materials and helicoptered workers into the canyon area and the riders have provided the hard labor of putting up the fence. It is amazing that these riders have done more in the last several weeks to protect the Evening Primrose than the BLM and the enviromentalists have in years.
Please help spread the word about Clear Creek. There are thousands of people who enjoy riding in this area but we need to act nownot after the area is closed. If your local riding area is under the same pressure, get involved and help out. We need to show the bueracrats and politicians that we are a proactive communitynot the passive minority they think we are.
