The sound test day at Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area proved to bea big hit with riders, volunteers, and California State Park staff.
The goal of this collaborative effort between State Parks, the BlueRibbonCoalition (BRC), and the Red Neck Roosters Motorcycle Club was to help educateoff-highway vehicle enthusiasts about the new lower 96dB sound limit in AB2474, OHV legislation signed into law by Governor Gray Davis. Educationalsupport also came from the FMF/BRC Sound Testing Program for OHVs.
More than 70 men, women, and children brought their bikes and ATVs into thevolunteer sound check station to have them tested to see if their OHVs will bein compliance with the new law that becomes law January 1, 2003. After gettingchecked the riders were treated to world famous quot;Skip Dogs quot; at Skip'sat Carnegie and were entered into a raffle for prizes that were handed out atthe end of the day.
The Red Neck Roosters also offered complimentary FMF muffler repacking forthose riders who wanted to reduce the sound level of their current exhaustsystem.
Don Amador, the western representative for the BRC, said, "I'm proud to beassociated with this ongoing effort by Park staff, off-road organizations, landmanagement agencies, and conservation groups to educate the public about theimportance of complying with the new sound requirements. Dana Jones, the parksuperintendent, deserves some kudos for her hard work to make this a fun anduseful event."
