WILDOMAR, CALIFORNIA. The Malcolm Smith Motorsports / Sunstar Racing For Life Offroad Team (www.racingforlife.org) announces today that the Julia Lynn II, the 2007 Husqvarna TC 510, will be auctioned off to the highest bidder at the Mid America Vintage Motorcycle Auction at the South Point Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 11, 2008. This special motorcycle successfully completed the 40th anniversary edition of the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, traversing 1,296.39 miles down the treacherous Baja peninsula. Malcolm Smith started the race around 7 AM on November 14, 2007, handing the Julia Lynn II off to his racing partner, JN Roberts along Highway 3. Malcolm Smith and JN Roberts, two of the biggest legends in the history of the sport, teamed up 40 years ago to win the inaugural race, then known as The Mexican 1000, aboard a Husqvarna 360.
In addition to the Julia Lynn II, a 1967 Husqvarna 360 will also be auctioned off to the highest bidder. This fully documented motorcycle was restored as an exact replica as Malcolm Smith and JN Roberts raced 40 years ago, right down to the BSA 4.5 gallon tank and BSA Victor Lucas 441 Headlight. This museum restoration, meticulously prepared by John Lefevre, Vintage Husky (www.vintagehuky.com), has been autographed by the legends of the race, with the autographs of more than 50 past overall winners including Malcolm Smith, JN Roberts, Larry Roeseler, Johnny Campbell, and Ivan Stewart. Other legends of the race to autograph the Husqvarna include Dave Ekins and Bruce Meyers. Dave Ekins was Steve McQueen's stunt double in such famous movies as that motorcycle scene in The Great Escape and driving the Bullit Mustang in Bullit. Bruce Meyers was the creator of the Meyers Manx, the winning 4-wheel vehicle in that first race 40 years ago, piloted to victory by Vic Wilson and Ted Mangels.
Both motorcycles have been on display at the San Diego Auto Museum (www.sdautomuseum.org) as part of a season-long exhibit honoring the 40th anniversary of the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 (www.score-international.com), the world's toughest and longest point-to-point off road race. They can be publicly viewed through the end of January 2007.
The Mid America Vintage Motorcycle Auction (www.midamericaauctions.com) is the world's largest vintage motorcycle auction with hundreds of vintage, collectable and special interest motorcycles to line up during the auction's three days, running from January 10-12, 2008. Both motorcycles will hit the auction block starting at 1 PM on Friday, January 11, 2008.
