We have officially built the world's fastest Honda CR125R, and we're not even using our full-blown race engines built by Don Holmboe of Competition Motor Corp.! The team of Paul Livingston and Rod Faulkner have been testing at El Mirage dry lake bed for the last month, but this was the first time that I've been able to ride, and it couldn't have gone any better! I spent the first half-hour learning the layout of the high-speed playground and the unique configuration of the chassis before we put in a few runs on our test motors.
In all, we will be taking seven race engines to Bonneville next week, and as you can see by the lowered Race Tech suspension and the massive RLV ultra low-boy pipe, the machine is incredibly exotic. The pipe allows our three machines to rev out to an impressive 13,000 plus rpm, but it does make it difficult to turn right in the runoff area. But when we're on the gas using 17/41 gearing, we hit 110.1 mph on this tired motor on a surface that is rougher than the salt flats. Based on our testing and dyno info with the race motors, we should be in the hunt to surpass the current mark just over 118mph.
