Justin Barcia's Day At RedBud Motocross | MX 2016

Justin Barcia went 3-4 for 4th overall at round 6

Justin Barcia’s JGR Yamaha was all decked out with a patriotic stars and stripes for the July 4th weekend at RedBud. Justin came into the RedBud weekend looking for better results than his 11th overall last week at Muddy Creek. A mechanical failure in moto one last week hurt his chances of being in the top 5 there, so Justin was looking forward to the July 4th weekend for a dramatic improvement since he won the overall last year with a 2-1 moto score.Photo by Rob Koy

Justin went out in the first timed practice session and turned a 1:57.082 on his 2nd lap for his fast time. Justin had the fourth quickest time in that session and was turning consistent 1:57 lap times throughout the practice session. Justin takes an inside line in the turn before the sand whoops in the second timed practice. There was two line choices in this turn, either the inside or a much wide outside line with a built up berm to use. Justin chose the inside line during most of the laps in practice as a 450 had no problem building up speed to go through the sand whoops. Justin was also fourth fastest in session two by turning a 1:57.224 on his fourth lap.Photo by Rob Koy
In moto one Justin got of to a good start and was behind Ken Roczen after the first lap, running in second place. Justin was able to hold off the charge from Eli Tomac for the first twelve minutes of the moto.Photo by Rob Koy
Justin put up a good fight against Eli on lap 6 going down the valley after the start straight; it would be a close battle for half a lap. Justin would settle into 3rd place for the rest of the moto and scored his first outdoor podium of the year.Photo by Rob Koy

Justin takes the outside line on the downhill before the off camber turn. The braking bumps got extremely big and odd shaped, as many the riders described after the race. If you took the outside line on the downhill you would then have to set up for the outer berm through the off camber turn, which was a much longer way around.Photo by Rob Koy
Justin and the JGR team have been doing a lot of testing during the week to get Justin more comfortable on the bike. The JGR team did make some suspension adjustments for the second moto, and Justin got a chance to check it out before the gate drops on moto two.Photo by Rob Koy
Justin got off to a top ten start in moto two, but he had to work his way through the pack to get into 4th place by lap 6. He did make a charge on third place Broc Tickle towards the end of the moto but could not get close enough to make the pass. Justin settled into the fourth place position and would loose the 3rd overall podium to Broc Tickle who beat him with a better second moto finish in a tie break.
