Haught Run Campground Proposed to be Closed Permanently

Wayne National Forest might close the campground for good which could affect trails

The Wayne National Forest is considering the possibility of closing a Washington County campground permanently.

The Haught Run Campground, located in both Ludlow and Independence Townships, has been closed under an emergency order since 2014.

The U. S. Forest Service says that permanently closing the campground is needed in order to protect human health and safety. Officials say that erosion along a bank on a curve of the Little Muskingum River has made three of the four campsites unsafe to use.

If the campground is decommissioned, the section of the Covered Bridge Trail between Haught Run Campground and Shay Ridge Trail would also be closed.
