Welcome to The Weekly Dirt, the place to go each Wednesday to catch up on the latest happenings in the realm of off-road motorcycling. This week’s Dirt is coming from the NMA Ponca City Grand National Amateur Motocross Championships in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
The NMA Ponca City Grand National Amateur Motocross Championships got underway on Tuesday with the first round of motos, and Justin Bogle demonstrated why he was a heavily recruited by several top pro teams. The Oklahoma rider eventually signed with GEICO/Factory Connection/Honda, and proved he is the real deal by running away with two big wins. Bogle topped the 250 STK Pro and 450 STK Pro races, and will have two more races on Wednesday. After Ponca City, Bogle will race Loretta Lynn’s next week before making his Pro debut at Unadilla on August 13th.
Red Bull Honda rider Cooper Webb was also impressive at Ponca City, taking strong wins in the 85/150 STK 14-16 and 150 4-Stroke Thru 16 classes. Webb passed Honda’s Bradley Esper to win the 4-stroke race, and then led start-to-finish in the 85/150 race. Other winners included Justin Summers in the 250 STK Intermediate Div. 2 race, Cobra rider Jett Reynolds in the 50 Pee Wee STK Thru 6, and Honda rider Cole Thompson in the 250/450 College 18-25 Non-Pro class.
