Red Bull KTM riders Max Nagl in MX1 Class and Marvin Musquin in MX2 class won the France GP.This year’s French Grand Prix rewarded a huge enthusiastic crowd with the victory of home rider Marvin Musquin, the first Frenchman to ever win an MX2 Grand Prix at Ernee.Under very changeable weather conditions KTM fellow rider Max Nagl won the MX1 Grand Prix as both dominated today’s four heats which they led from the start to the flag.Defending world champion David Philippaerts and Antonio Cairoli rounded off the MX1 podium as an all French rostrum was completed by Boissiere and Larrieu.MX1 CLASSBuilding on his first season podium from last weekend, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Nagl took his second career GP win as he went on to dominate both heats in Ernee. Nagl showed renewed confidence in Ernee and the move to third in the Championship standings will be a great calling for his fans ahead of the German’s home GP in Teutschenthal in two weeks.Yamaha Monster Energy Motocross’ David Philippaerts extended his podium row to three as he ended second overall in Ernee. A strong performance in the Moto 1, which he ended in second, was followed by a difficult second heat as he crashed and was forced to work his way up through the pack.Red Bull Yamaha De Carli’s Antonio Cairoli was back on the podium taking third behind Philippaerts. The Italian, who still leads the MX1 Championship, managed to lose just four points from runner up Philippaerts even though he experienced two eventful heats. In heat one he was involved in a tangle ending seventh while in heat two he put together a strong recovery to end second.Other Yamaha Red Bull De Carli racer Tanel Leok was fourth overall ahead of yesterday’s pole man Clement Desalle. After a solid opening heat the Belgian crashed twice in Moto2.Mickael Pichon was the highest placed home rider with seventh overall while Ken De Dycker’s hopes of a podium finish ended with a DNF in Moto 2 due to a broken footpeg of his Suzuki.Tom Church instead ended 12th overall and managed to remain with the front runners at the beginning of heat two.Max Nagl:
“It was very good to win my second GP after Faenza (2008). I liked this track right from the start. There are not so many lines and you can use your power – and I have plenty of that! After the qualification I did expect a bit more from Desalle, but today I was fast. I had some problems with the roll-offs on my goggles in the first heat but the second heat was easier for me and there was a big gap between me and the guy who was second”.David Philippaerts:
“I am happy with today because I had two crashes in the Moto 1 but had some good lines and made a decent race to save a podium position. We had two different races. In the first the line wasn’t very big and in the second there was more choice but it was rougher and more difficult. Max was very fast today but I want to push to be faster than him; for the last two GPs it has been us two at the front. We still have a lot of races to go in this championship and riders like Josh and Desalle will play a part yet. It was nice to race here in France with all the fans packed in the amphitheatre, when you jump past them you can see many faces.”Antonio Cairoli:
“I did not train this week and had some pain in my back after Mallory. I was quite scared last week that I had done some damage and was relieved when nothing showed up in the examination. I was looking forward to this GP even though I wasn’t feeling 100%. It was a shame about the rain in the Moto 1 because passing other riders was actually pretty dangerous and I needed to learn a bit more about riding an MX1 bike in these conditions; it was only Faenza at the start of the year when we raced in something similar. My confidence with the bike is good but I still need to get experience in weather like this.”MX1 Moto 1: 1. Maximilian Nagl (GER, KTM), 2. David Philippaerts (ITA, Yamaha), 3. MX2 CLASSThe MX2 Grand Prix saw an incredibly strong Marvin Musquin who steered his works KTM to two dominant heat wins as KTM fellow rider Nagl did in MX1.Right after winning two heats at Mallory Park one week ego, for the first time in his career, built on Marvin his Championship lead courtesy of another haul of 50 points. The young Frenchman led the pack into the opening turn after both starts and from then on he displayed an incredible pace which no one could match.KTM HDI MX’s Anthony Boissiere gave him chase in the Moto 1 but never managed to close the gap. Second heat was another story due to a flat tyre, though an eventual seventh was enough for Anthony to end on his second season podium.Young gun Loic Larrieu put together two strong heats to collect his first career podium with third overall. The Yamaha Monster Energy Ricci Motocross rider took two good starts and finished fourth and fifth in the heats.Completing a French top four was Gautier Paulin, with the Kawasaki Bud Racing man being again consistent to keep the runner up spot in the Championship.Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2′s Ken Roczen made up for a difficult f Moto 1 with an incredible second place in Moto 2, when he started a lot better. The young German even slipped throughout the heat but that caused no damage to his eventual result. Ken is now 10th in the Championship after he completed just four Grand Prix’s.The Italian Davide Guarneri remained third in the Championship as he finished sixth while fourth placed Rui Goncalves had a bad day ending 11th.Marvin Musquin:
“It’s like a dream come true,I tried to tackle this race with the same motivation as I did in England, but with all the French spectators behind me it was something special. The track was difficult after the rain but I managed to get the holeshot and to be focused, after that things were quite easy, even if was not so easy to pass because there were only one or two lines. I like my bike, my suspension was perfect and I’m in good physical condition. Also to come here from the last race with the red plate gave me confidence!”Anthony Boissiere:
I was always up there with the rest in the first heat but in the second I had a flat tire in the last part .I am happy,I couldn’t expect more this weekend. Marvin was very fast and second is a good result for me. Now I will try to get some more good results in the next races.”Loic Larrieu:
“This is a great result for me and an important point in my season. The starts were really important for me today and I think the Moto 2 was tougher than the first one. I learned a valuable lesson today and that is how important it is to start with the leaders in order to find a good rhythm quickly. I could make some good laps and felt a bit tired because of the conditions but otherwise it was a memorable day. To do this in front of my home crowd is fantastic and a podium is a surprise for me; certainly at this round!”MX2 Moto 1: 1. Marvin Musquin (FRA, KTM) 2. Anthony Boissiere (FRA, KTM) 3.
