Some days you earn victory the tough way. Some days you get them as gifts.Either way is fine by Jimmy Jarrett, and the two-time and reigning Parts Unlimited Off-road Motorcycle and ATV Nationals series champion ran his record to three-for-three this season by winning round three, the Motion Pro Hoosier Grand Prix in Judah, Indiana. After getting the holeshot, Jarrett missed a turn and surrendered the lead to AmPro Yamaha’s Charlie Mullins, making his first start in the series this year. Despite a spill or two, Mullins set the pace out front over the difficult, muddy course at the Lawrence County Recreation Park, with fellow YZ250 rider Justin Williamson settling into second and Jarrett third.Unfortunately for Mullins, he rode into a deep mud hole on the sixth of eight laps and couldn’t wrestle it out before Jarrett—who’d passed Williamson for second the lap before—rode past.”I didn’t think I was going to catch him, and I don’t know if I would’ve if he wouldn’t have got stuck, but that’s racing,” Jarrett surmised.”I didn’t see me going any faster than I was so I was pretty content there [in second place],” he admitted. “I was ahead of Justin and Shane (Watts, who dropped out after crashing and hitting his head) [and] those are the people I needed to beat.”A disappointed Mullins ended up second and reported, “I got a pretty decent lead, and I kept asking my dad how many more laps to go because the race felt really long today!”I was feeling good the last two laps, and I got stuck in a deep mud hole. It took a lot of energy to get it out.”Paul Whibley of New Zealand continued to add to his American racing experience while basing himself out of Scott Summers’ headquarters in Kentucky. Riding a CRF450R, he said, “After the first/sighting lap this morning I couldn’t really believe the course! I was like, `My God; it’s more like some kind of enduro course!’ “Nonetheless, he pushed on after getting a midpack start and put in a steady ride to climb up to third on the final lap. Williamson hung on for fourth while RM250-mounted Jeff Cregg rounded out the top five and was the final rider to complete eight laps.Pro Results
