Dirt Wurx USA’s president Rich Winkler announced today that Dirt Wurx will be the official track builder for this season’s Daytona round of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series.Dirt Wurx, which designs and constructs the 15 other supercross events produced and promoted by Live Nation, was the first choice of the AMA’s race manager, Steve Whitelock, when it was determined that Daytona International Speedway was in need of a supercross design and construction company for its supercross race scheduled for Friday, March 10th.”I’m happy the series now has a consistent track builder for all the events,” said Whitelock. “This was something I’ve spoke with the officials at Daytona on a number of occasions. So this year we’ll have a joint effort between the AMA, Daytona and Dirt Wurx and will work to move forward with having Rich and Dirt Wurx as our regular track builder at Daytona in the years to come.”Winkler, who used to race AMA MX Nationals as a pro back in the day, was excited about leading his track construction team onto the hallowed grounds of Daytona International Speedway – the birthplace of supercross in the eastern United States.”Daytona will for sure be one of the more unique supercross tracks we build all year,” said Winkler. “It may not be as technically difficult as putting a supercross track over a synthetic turf field inside a domed stadium in the middle of winter, but there are aspects of the design and construction that will be tough.”Winkler explained that all of the other tracks on the Amp’d Mobile Supercross Series tour pretty much have a 360-degree viewing area. Daytona’s set up doesn’t even allow for 180 degrees of viewing, adding “That alone, when taking the fans’ sight lines into consideration, will be something we really need to sit down with the AMA and Daytona Speedway officials to figure out.”But Winkler and his crew are up for the task.
