With five past wins, including the last four in a row, Brian Garrahan is the man at Hollister. However, at the latest running, which marked round one of the AMA National Hare Scrambles Series, he had to take a back seat to last year’s runner-up, Chuck Woodford. The Team Green racer from Ohio (pictured) used his excellent mud riding skills hold off the hard-charging and determined Patrick Garrahan for a narrow victory.Garrahan was leading in one of the last trecherous corners about a quarter mile out, but Kawasaki’s Chuck Woodford just got through the deep ruts better. Never one to give up, Patrick tried in vain to make a last-minute ditch pass, but cartwheeled in front of spectators. He still picked it up and finished second ahead of his brother, Brian Garrahan who rounded out the podium on his new Suzuki.
“I was just kind of doing my own thing out there all day and didn’t really pay attention to who was what and what was where until towards the end of that last lap there,” Woodford said. “That’s when I realized it’s time to pin it and try to bring it in first because Patrick [Garrahan] caught up to me; it was a good race for the last half of the final lap.”

In addition to valuable series points, the victory also earned Woodford the $500 bonus for beating Brian Garrahan, who raced a Suzuki RM250 for the first time. Clutch problems hampered his effort, however.Washington’s Ricky Dietrich just missed making the podium in his Pro debut, getting fourth place on his KX250.
