Irvine, CA (November 7, 2013) – Poland’s Taddy Blazusiak has won the last four GEICO AMA EnduroCross Championships, fueled by Monster Energy in dominating fashion. In fact, he only lost five of the 29 main events held between 2009 and 2012. But 2013 has been a different story; Blazusiak has only one win in five rounds and he has a serious fight on his hands coming from his KTM teammate, Mike Brown. In fact, Brown currently holds a seven point lead going into this weekend’s penultimate round at the Idaho Center, located a few miles west of downtown Boise.
Both riders are trying to downplay the pressure of the championship but you can feel the tension rising at each event. “I am just trying to put in the best races I can and not think about the points” said Brown. Brown has often been the fastest rider on the track in 2013 and he has capitalized with two wins two seconds and one fourth place finish so far.
Blazusiak has kept it close with one win, two seconds and two fourth place finishes. Those two fourth place finishes have come after recoveries from first turn crashes on both occasions and he will need to avoid that carnage in order to keep his hopes for a fifth title alive. “For sure, everybody else is getting much better” Blazusiak said. “I have to be in the top five on the start to be able to have a chance to win” he continued. Blazusiak also injured his right hand in a spectacular practice crash at the previous round in Washington and expected to be unable to ride much if any leading into Boise so that too could play into Brown’s favor.
Cody Webb would also likely be contending for the 2013 GEICO AMA EnduroCross title if he had not suffered a broken foot just before the second round in Sacramento. He was forced to miss that race but has won the last two events in Denver and Everett to climb up to a tie for fourth in the championship. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Taylor Robert and JCR Honda’s Colton Haaker are also consistent threats for wins so Boise should produce another exciting night of racing.
