Matt Goerke finished a credible 17th at Phoenix on his BTOSPorts.com-backed KTM 450 SXF. For 2013, the boys at BTO picked up full backing from KTM so their bikes feature lots factory parts and KTM takes care of the team’s engine and suspension needs. Just about everything that Dungey gets, BTO has the opportunity to run, as well.
The team runs Pirelli tires mounted on A60 Excel rims laced to Talon hubs from Dubya.
“The Pirelli tires have been awesome for straight-line traction,” says Boyd.
As far as person preference items, Boyd says Goerke likes lower bars and he likes the bike to turn really tight so he runs a little bit tighter offset triple clamp.
“He’s not too picky as far as footpegs go,” says Boyd. “We run Raptors and they are pretty light and sharp. In fact, the first time he used them he complained they were too sharp and they hurt his feet. Other than that, the only other thing he’s picky about is the shift lever and KTM has so many options from different models – they have like 10 different shift levers – so he finally found one he likes after he tried every single one of them.”
“Power-wise, KTM has more power than anyone anyway, but he wants it super smooth,” says Boyd. “There’s no hit to it and the bike pretty much just generates torque, there’s no real wheel spin at all.”
“As far as the suspension, he runs maybe on click softer than WP’s baseline settings from last year,” adds Boyd.
