Dave Gowland’s Rockstar Energy Suzuki team scored a major coup when it signed Davi Millsaps to ride a 450 for the 2013 season. Davi is a big, strong guy and he likes his motor and suspension to reflect his aggressive style. According to Davi’s mechanic, Steve Westfall, the team motors are done in-house by Jamie Ellis and Jason Thomas.

“CP-Carrillo helps with the pistons, Web Cam does our cams and Hinson does our clutch setup,” said Westfall. “We get our titanium for the motor and frame parts from J27, and Galfer helps with brakes. We also use Dubya wheels and Excel rims.”

According to Westfall, American Showa services the Showa suspension, with Scott Bennett handling the setup. Basically, everything is A-kit stuff with no works parts.

Westfall adds that Millsaps likes his suspension to be plush in the initial part of the stroke, but he wants it to get stiffer the farther into the stroke it goes. As far as the rear shock, Millsaps runs a radically stiff shock.

“Davi likes tons of bottom end power,” Westfall says when asked about the motor. “He basically wants it to rip his arms off and our guys have come up with a great motor package for him.”

Other items on Millsaps’ bike includes a Vortex ignition, Moto Tassinari intake, UFO plastic and an FMF exhaust.
