A Motocross Race Between Jesse Ziegler & Sarah Whitmore

OK, now that you have read Jesse's side of the story, I think its time you heard mine. Let me start by saying anything Jesse says should be taken with a grain of salt. I'm sure he is going to make up some great excuse why he not only got beat but was smoked, by yours truly. This is what really happened:

As soon as I got to the track, he started with the trash talking. How he was going to beat me because I'm just a girl and we girls don't belong on motorcycles. Now, I don't know if he was joking or not, but that wasn't a smart thing to do. At first I just wanted to win for the sake of winning, but after that I wanted to kick his ass! I watched him practice for a little while, and he was actually a lot faster than everyone told me he was. Then on my first lap of practice, my throttle started sticking. When I came back to the pits to get it fixed, he started teasing me, saying I was scared and was already making up excuses. I had Doug Dubach--my hero since I was five--fix my bike (thank you), and I pulled in behind Jesse to check out his speed. After a lap, I knew I had it in the bag. This was going to be easier than I thought.

On the line, Jesse started talking again about girls not being able to ride and so on. That's when I started singing "You Make Me Feel (Like a Natural Woman)" to him, and I don't think he liked that too much. We didn't have a real starting gate so he threw a rock in the air, when it landed we took off. Except I was looking into the sun and didn't see it land. We restarted, and he again got cocky, thinking I must be scared if I am making up so many excuses. When the rock landed the second time, I was nice and let Jesse get the start. Jesse rode well, and I let him lead for a lap before passing him on the outside of a corner. That was pretty much the end of it. I rode around, singing (Madonna this time), not even breaking a sweat.

The deal was if we had a good battle then we would run two motos, but if I ran away with it, we would call it quits after one...so we loaded up. I won't lie. I gloated for the rest of the day, telling him he just got beat by a girl seven years younger, and how my grandma can beat me in arm wrestling so he must really be a wimp. He was a very good sport about it, though, and when he had to buy me dinner as part of the bet, he even paid for my friend. I must say that was the best meal I have had in a long time, and don't worry, I ordered everything I could! The best part was the next weekend when he had to fulfill the second part of the bet, which was to wear a shirt at the San Diego Supercross that said: "I got beat by a girl" (along with "I am the biggest loser in the world" and "Sarah rules").

I really want to thank Dirt Rider for doing this story. Not only was it a fun time, but I got to make some new friends. And it really means a lot to have such a magazine cover women's motocross. Lastly, don't believe anything Jesse says--not only am I a faster rider, but I am a better writer, too. Just messing, Jesse!--Sarah Whitmore, #4
