Supersprox Stealth Sprocket

Sometimes crazy claims are backed up. Supersprox Stealth sprocket ($79.95) is one that lives up to the marketing promises. Typically I go through one aluminum sprocket a year on my XR400, sooner if I ride the bike a lot in the wetter times of the year. I know this from experience of ownership since 1997. Well, about three years ago I tried a Stealth sprocket. And forgot about it. Then I noticed my chain was worn or mostly damaged to the point that it needed replacing yet the sprocket was still fine.

I also matched the rear with a front ($19.95) sprocket from Supersprox, and it looks just as fresh without any signs of twisting, but we are only talking about 35 horsepower here. The used sprockets meshed with a new chain perfectly as the teeth were still in excellent condition. I had to go back in my records and see how long I'd been running the chain and sprocket set; it was a pretty long time even in our "easy living" conditions for drivetrains here in the sun and dry. But I did run the bike through plenty of conditions that are abrasive and grueling (I've replaced two sets of wheel bearings on this bike in this time!) on sprockets and chains, and this did as well as any steel sprocket I've seen- it just weighs less. In reality, I can't see this sprocket wearing out. And if it ever does, the company has a lifetime guarantee, so Supersprox is pretty confident too, especially when you match the set with an RK chain. So if you want a part that you can just put on and forget about it, this has proven to be the right chain and sprocket combo. -Jimmy Lewis
