RLC News Release
Tired of using stop watches to time your rider and whiteboards to let your rider know their lap time? R.L.C. Racing has the solution for you; the Track Commander Moto-X. It is a small, rugged, 100% GPS timing, track mapping and logging unit that features a sunlight readable color graphics touch screen. The Track Commander easily mounts to most Motocross bikes and lets the rider know their lap times anywhere on the track and can also transmit those times to an iTouch, iPhone, or iPad on the sidelines.
The Track Commander, like all R.L.C. systems, has a color graphics touch screen display, 2 gigabytes of onboard logging memory, 1 USB port, and a built-in 3-axis G-Force sensor and includes a high accuracy 20 Hz differential GPS module. The head unit measures only 4”x3”x0.6” and is easily readable in all weather conditions thanks to R.L.C.’s utilization of transflective technology. If you look up transflective in a racing dictionary, you will read something like this: “[trans-flek-tiv] The coolest thing to hit racing in decades. Transflective displays reflect the sun’s light back at you, making color displays brighter in the sun.” So not only are you going to be able to actually see your dash, even in the direct sunlight, it will be in bright and useful COLOR graphics. The Track Commander can store a lifetime worth of races on its SD card, although all files can be easily transferred to a standard USB memory stick using the USB port.
The color graphics touch screen makes it easy to set up and customize the Track Commander to your preferences. You can set the number of GPS predictive beacons, logging speed, screen preferences/colors, standard/metric units, save or load a start/finish line, and many other preferences right on the touch screen. If you’ve set up something and don’t like it, you can make change in seconds. You don’t need to connect to a PC to set up or change the way the Track Commander works for you.
This simple unit mounts directly to the bike with the universal mounting adapters included with each unit. For power, the unit connects to a lightweight optional battery pack or you can directly wire to the bike’s battery. Plug the 20 Hz GPS module (included with the purchase of any system) into the cable coming out of the Track Commander and you are ready to go! After setting your “virtual” start/finish line by pressing a button on the touch screen (or loading an existing start/finish line), you will instantly be getting accurate and useful predictive lap times. New to predictive timing? The Track Commander will automatically split the track up into a predetermined number of sections with virtual markers (the user programs how many virtual markers they want, from 1-99). Every time you cross one of the virtual markers, it will tell you whether you are faster or slower than your fastest lap at that exact point on the track. This instant feedback is the type of thing we need on the track; knowing whether our mechanical tweaks or new race lines are doing us any good. R.L.C.’s predictive timing is incredibly addictive and very accurate, all thanks to GPS technology. After every session the pop up summary screen will display all of your lap times for the past session. You can even sort them by lap number or lap times with just a touch of the screen. This perfect feature allows the last session to be quickly and easily reviewed with your trainer. The current summary screen will remain available until another session is started even if the unit is powered off then back on.
Still not enough? R.L.C. brings Wi-Fi technology to racing! With a simple plug-n-play option and either an iTouch, iPhone, or iPad you can instantly have your coach, mechanic, or Dad monitor sensor data or timing information while you are out on the track or in the pits. This new feature can instantly be added to the Track Commander and allows a coach or mechanic on the sidelines to monitor any and all sensors connected to your unit for the current lap or any past lap. Predictive times and lap times for the current lap and all completed laps can be viewed in real time on an iTouch, iPhone, or iPad. This can all be done while the rider is on the track. If that isn’t enough, the Track Commander directly interfaces to a GoPro camera system to give you truly synchronized video.
Say you have a friend that is kicking your butt on the track and it just so happens that they also have a Track Commander. Want to figure out why they are doing so much better? Compare your log files with R.L.C.’s Pro Race Analysis software (available free of charge at www.rlc.com) and compare each lap side by side. You can see how fast your bikes were going anywhere on the track or how many G’s you were pulling in different turns. Downloading your data is easy. After pulling into the pits, you pop in your USB memory stick, press the copy button, and in 10 seconds you are taking that same USB memory stick to your computer for some analysis. Open your log file and your friend’s and you will see your sessions being replayed on your computer. If you happen to be using a GoPro camera system, you will be getting even MORE useful feedback. The Track Commander connects to a GoPro camera and will control it so you don’t ever have to worry about pressing the record button again (GoPro option requires manual synchronization of the video and log file). So if you DO happen to be using the GoPro add-on, you can visually see where you’re braking, accelerating, and turning on the track. All of this analysis is very simple and quick. By the time you start your next session, you will have a list of things you want to try on the track. And with R.L.C.’s predictive timing, you will know right away whether your ideas are working or not. Download the R.L.C. Pro Race Analysis software for a look at this and more!
The Track Commander is even expandable! You can instantly turn the Track Commander into a full data logger by connecting any one of R.L.C.’s Data Acquisition Channel Expanders (DACX module). With a DACX module connected you can connect to external sensors like engine RPM, brake pressure, or throttle position. All the data from the external sensors are logged and can be used in the Pro Race Analysis software. Imagine being able to see exactly where you were braking, how hard you were braking, when you got back on the throttle, and what line you took through a turn. Combine all this knowledge, apply it out on the track, and start seeing your predictive and lap times go down!
R.L.C.’s newest unit, the Track Commander Moto-X, retails for just $1,249.00 and you get the Track Commander unit, 20 Hz GPS module, universal mounting adapters, and USB memory stick. For just over $1,000 you will have the most accurate 100% GPS lap timing, driving tool available on the market.
