Thor/Parts Unlimited Update
Now that the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship has arrived at the halfway point riders are getting a much-deserved weekend off. In fact, racing action is pretty quiet throughout the dirt-bike world this weekend, as riders will look to recharge in preparation of their final pushes towards the finish lines later this summer.
Before diving right into the summer break, Thor MX would like to congratulate CLS Kawasaki rider Steven Frossard (#183) on his first career FIM Motocross Grand Prix victory in the MX2 class. Frossard captured the overall victory with 2-1 moto results last weekend in Sweden. The newly-crowned Swedish GP champ has never been a stranger to podium finishes, but standing on the top step is something Frossard will no doubt become more familiar with.
Additional Thor riders to keep an eye on during the final six rounds of the FIM Motocross Grand Prix are #19 David Philippaerts (3rd overall in MX1 Standings) and #89 Jeremy van Horebeek (7th overall in MX2 Standings). Both riders are right in the thick of capturing an overall podium finish for the season, and will look to begin their charge when racing returns to action August 1st in Belgium.
Back in the U.S.A., Thor riders are holding down championship podium spots in both classes. Christophe Pourcel (1st), Dean Wilson (2nd), and Tyla Rattray (3rd) currently occupy the top three overall positions in the 250 Class.
Another Thor rider to keep an eye out for is the current Monster Energy AMA Supercross Lites West champion, Jake Weimer. Weimer sits in 10th overall in the standings but most don’t expect that to last for long, as it’s only a matter of time before he is running in the top five overall.
In the 450 Class, Chad Reed has overcome a couple difficult races and is well positioned to capture another title as he sits in 2nd overall. Reed remains 64 points behind leader Ryan Dungey, but as we all know the overall standings are always subject to change quickly.
After a strong performance last weekend at the RedBud National, Reed will look to build on that momentum heading into the Spring Creek National on July 17th.
