IRVINE, Calif., (June 9, 2010) – GEICO EnduroCross Series, presented by E3 Spark Plugs, defending champion Taddy Blazusiak (KTM) dominated this past weekend’s XVI Red Bull Erzbergrodeo in Austria – one of the world’s premier “extreme enduro” events. So he is certainly in top form as he prepares to come back to the US to defend his title against a strong field. The Erzbergrodeo is the event that Taddy, a world championship trials competitor at the time, borrowed a bike four years ago and then won the event to put him on the map for extreme events like this. KTM immediately signed him up and brought him to the EnduroCross final that season where he created a controversy by beating David Knight to take away his chance for a $50,000 pay day by winning the triple crown.
“Winning the Erzbergrodeo puts a rider into a very select class of racers. Winning it a fourth time adds ‘legendary’ to that title,” said Mike Karsting, VP of Events for Source Interlink Media. “We look forward to seeing Taddy back here stateside to defend his GEICO EnduroCross title at the July 17th opener in Vegas.”
Added Blazusiak: “I’m really happy to be coming back for EnduroCross and to defend my title. It’s going to be fun and good racing again. Looking forward to seeing my fans in the U.S.”
It should be said that the win for Blazusiak this past weekend was his fourth straight victory at the Erzbergrodeo. And so convincing was the victory the second-place racer, Germany’s Andreas Lettenbichler, stated: “Taddy was riding in his own class.”
Also noteworthy, Corey Graffunder from Canada placed 6th at the Erzbergrodeo on his Husqvarna. He was the 2009 E3 Spark Plugs Junior EnduroCross Championship (for riders 21 and under) runner up and has his sights set on not only winning that crown this year but also challenging Taddy for the wins and the overall championship.
