AmPro Yamaha News Release

Race: OMA Round 1
Location: Tuscumbia, AL
Riders: Paul Whibley and Jordan Ashburn
Report:
Competitors from across the country gathered at the Seven Springs Lodge to kick off the opening round of the Parts Unlimited OMA National Series. The weather was perfect and riders where ready to go!

Going hard into the first corner, AmPro Yamaha’s Paul Whibley would get pushed to the outside setting him up for a less the ideal starting position. After charging hard for two laps, Paul worked his way up to second place right behind KTM’s Russell Bobbitt!

“The start was looking good until I got bumped to the outside,” says Whibley. “From there I had my work cut out for me trying to catch Bobbitt. The course was really tight and there were limited opportunities for passing. Once I got behind Bobbitt on the second lap it was tough to find a place to get around him and we rode neck and neck for the rest of the race. The bike ran really well. We did pretty much the same set up as we did last year for the OMA’s and I was really happy with how it performed. I definitely want to thank Yamaha and all my sponsors; this was another good race for us and I’m excited to be on the box. I’d also like to thank Cycra… with how tight the course was, I have to say their Handguards worked great and they definitely took their share of hard hits!

Now with AmPro Yamaha’s Thad Duvall focusing on the GNCC and the National Enduro Series, team rookie and Obermyer Yamaha Support rider Jordan Ashburn mounted up his YZ450 on the pro line with all the top riders. After a pretty rough start Ashburn pushed hard, working his way into the third place position!

“Man I thought the dirt in Alabama was sandy… guess I was wrong!” Ashburn says laughing. “It was rocky and tight just like back home in Tennessee and I loved it. I had some trouble on the start which put me dead last, so I had some catching up to do. Once I worked my way up to Whibley, I just tried to keep a solid pace. Him and Bobbitt we flying and gapped me pretty good towards the end. It was really tough to find a solid line to pass but overall I’m happy with how I finished. I’m sure glad I had the Cycra Handguards mounted. In a tough race like this they are a must have! Also thanks to Keith at Obermyer Yamaha and Randy at AmPro Racing for all the help. The bike worked awesome!”
