This year’s event was based at the famous Sachsenring Motor Racing Circuit in Saxony, and it made for a great setting for the paddocks, with all its amenities. From there, the riders ventured out each day on a 100-mile-plus course that looped through the local towns and into the neighboring farms and woodlands. Each day, six to eight special tests served to rank the riders according to speed, although the transfer trails did their part in weeding out the weaklings.

The U.S. Trophy Team suffered a major setback today at the 87th running of the International Six Days Enduro in Saxony, Germany, when Charlie Mullins crashed in the fifth special test and separated his shoulder. The FMF/KTM rider, who was the top finishing American up to that point, managed to finish the test, although well down the order and in extreme pain. The U.S. Trophy Team moved up a position, passing the defending champions from Finland and moving from sixth to fifth, thanks to solid rides from FMF/KTM’s Charlie Mullins and Kawasaki’s Taylor Robert and a DNF from Finland’s Juha Salminen. As we reported yesterday, Juha had to replace a stator at the end of the day and evidently that didn’t solve his problem.

The U.S. Trophy Team held it’s own today and remain sixth overall in the Trophy division, some two seconds behind Spain and nearly two minutes ahead of Sweden. Once again, Charlie Mullins was America’s top performer, as the FMF/KTM rider improved his overall status to eighth in the individual overall standings and fourth in the super competitive E2 division. Meanwhile, Kawasaki’s Taylor Robert sits 13th overall and eighth in E2, with KTM’s Kurt Caselli 28th overall and 12th in E2.
