In 1972 Brad Lackey won the AMA 500cc National Motocross Championship. In 1973, rather than defend his title, he went to Europe to attempt to claim the then more prestigious 500cc World Title. It took him ten years, but in 1982 he did it, becoming the first American World Champion. This photo was from the final round that year in Luxembourg. Kent believes this photo was from the 1981 Anaheim Supercross, the opening round in the supercross series that had only one race at Anaheim, but two in Seattle, two in Houston, and two in Pontiac.

Gary believes this photo was taken in 1974 at Lexington (Mid-Ohio) of him racing his open class, factory Husqvarna. The photo was taken by Gary's mom, on his hometown track where he grew up racing as an amateur and later raced as a pro. Gary finished the 1974 season in fourth place in the 500cc championship.
